HERMES

Space weather monitoring at the Moon

HERMES Space Weather Research and Applications

The goal of this project is to better understand the variety of environments encountered as the moon orbits Earth and to characterize how the charged particles and radiation throughout that environment affects space systems. The investigation will be based primarily on the particle flux measurements of the HERMES instrument situated on the Gateway lunar space station. The results of the work will be prototyped into a space weather awareness tool to specify and predict the environment, its impacts, and the hazard to space systems in order to support current and future space exploration.
